How Much Does Invisalign Cost in Hobart?

Adna Brkanic • October 6, 2026

Invisalign in Hobart generally costs between $4,500 and $9,000, and where you land inside that range depends almost entirely on how much your teeth need to move. Minor corrections treated with Invisalign Express start from around $3,500 to $5,000, mild to moderate cases treated with Invisalign Lite commonly run $5,000 to $6,500, and full comprehensive treatment for complex crowding or bite problems generally falls between $7,000 and $9,000. Hobart quotes often sit towards the lower end of those national ranges, because Tasmanian practices carry lower overheads than Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. Most providers offer interest free payment plans of roughly $200 to $400 a month over 18 to 24 months, and if your extras policy includes orthodontics you may claw back somewhere between $1,000 and $3,000, though orthodontic cover carries a lifetime cap and a waiting period that is usually 12 months. Moonah Dental Centre provides Invisalign at all three of our Hobart practices, in Moonah, Claremont and the Hobart CBD, and treatment can take as little as six months depending on the condition of your teeth. Book an assessment and we will give you a written quote and a treatment length before you commit to anything.

What Invisalign Costs in Hobart Compared With the Mainland

Dental fees in Australia are not set by government or by any industry body, so every practice prices independently. That variation works in your favour in Hobart, for two reasons that are specific to Tasmania.

The first is overheads. Published cost guides consistently show practices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane charging more than regional and Tasmanian practices, because commercial rent and wages are higher. A comprehensive Invisalign case quoted at the top of the national range in Sydney will often be quoted below that in Hobart for identical treatment.

The second is who does the work. Tasmania has relatively few specialist orthodontists, so more Invisalign here is provided by general dentists who have completed Invisalign training. Specialist orthodontists typically charge more than general dentists, so for a straightforward or moderate case a Hobart general dentist is usually the more economical route. For genuinely complex jaw and bite problems a specialist referral may still be the right call, and our dentists will tell you plainly if that is what your case needs.

What this means practically is that it is worth getting a local quote rather than assuming the national headline figure applies to you. Ring around Hobart, ask for written quotes, and compare what each one actually includes.

Invisalign Prices by Treatment Tier

Treatment tier Typical price range Suited to Rough duration
Invisalign Express $3,500 to $5,000 Very minor movement, small gaps, mild relapse after old braces 3 to 6 months
Invisalign Lite $5,000 to $6,500 Mild to moderate crowding or spacing, mostly front teeth 6 to 9 months
Invisalign Moderate $6,000 to $7,500 Moderate crowding, spacing and minor bite issues. The most common tier for Australian adults. 9 to 15 months
Invisalign Comprehensive $7,000 to $9,000 Complex cases, significant crowding, rotation or bite correction 12 to 24 months
Invisalign First or Teen $6,000 to $8,500 Growing patients and teenagers 12 to 18 months

What Actually Drives Your Quote

Two people can walk into the same Hobart practice and be quoted $4,000 apart. Here is what moves the number.

•   How far your teeth have to travel. This is the big one. More movement means more aligners in the series, more appointments and a higher laboratory cost.

•   Whether your bite needs correcting as well as your alignment. Straightening front teeth is simpler than fixing how the upper and lower jaws meet.

•   Treatment length, because every month of treatment is another review appointment.

•   Whether you need groundwork first. Extractions, fillings or gum treatment have to be done before aligners start, and they are charged separately.

•   Whether refinements are included. Most people need a short second series at the end to fine tune the result, and some quotes include this while others charge for it. Always ask.

•   Retainers afterwards, which are essential and often quoted separately at roughly $300 to $700.

•   Whether you are seeing a general dentist or a specialist orthodontist.

That point on retainers catches people out. Teeth drift back towards their original position for the rest of your life, so a retainer is not optional. If a quote looks unusually low, check whether retainers and refinements are inside it.

Is Invisalign Covered by Private Health Insurance?

Partly, if your policy includes orthodontic cover, and there are three catches worth understanding before you rely on it.

The first is that orthodontic cover sits on higher extras tiers, so a basic policy almost certainly will not include it. The second is the waiting period, which is 12 months at every fund and can be up to 36 months on some policies, as the Private Health Insurance Ombudsman sets out. You cannot take out cover in March and start treatment in April. The third is that orthodontics is capped over your lifetime rather than annually, so once you have claimed up to that ceiling you cannot claim orthodontic benefits on that policy again. Across the major Australian funds the cheapest tier that includes orthodontics carries a median first year benefit of around $400 and a median lifetime cap of about $1,800, while stronger policies run to $3,500 or more.

The practical result is that most patients get $1,000 to $3,000 back across the course of treatment rather than a single large rebate. Call your fund before you start, ask specifically about your orthodontic lifetime limit, your remaining balance, your waiting period and your annual sub limit, and get the answer in writing. We accept all health funds and are a provider for Medibank, St Lukes Health, CBHS, Bupa, HCF, NIB and AHM, and our team can help you work out what you will actually be out of pocket.

Payment Plans and Spreading the Cost

Almost nobody pays for Invisalign in one transaction. Interest free plans typically work out at $200 to $400 a month over 18 to 24 months, which is roughly the cost of a gym membership and a streaming service. We also offer Afterpay, Zip and Humm, and you can claim your health fund rebate progressively as you go rather than waiting until the end.

One tip that saves real money. Because extras dental limits reset annually, starting treatment late in a calendar year can let you claim against two years of limits within a few months. If you are already close to your reset date, ask us to time the start of treatment around it.

Invisalign Versus Braces on Cost

The gap is narrower than most people assume. Traditional metal braces in Australia generally cost $6,000 to $9,000 for comprehensive treatment, which overlaps almost entirely with comprehensive Invisalign. Ceramic and lingual braces cost more than metal, sometimes more than Invisalign.

So for a complex case the two are broadly comparable and the decision comes down to appearance, comfort and whether you can commit to wearing aligners for the required hours each day. Where Invisalign genuinely undercuts braces is at the simpler end, because Express and Lite tiers exist for small corrections and there is no equivalent cut down version of braces. We also compare the practical differences between aligners and braces beyond the cost alone.

What You Get for the Money at Our Hobart Practices

Invisalign straightens your teeth using a series of clear, almost invisible aligners custom fitted to your teeth. Because they are removable, they fit around your life rather than the other way around, so you can still eat what you like and clean your teeth normally. Impressions of your teeth are taken so each aligner in the series is made specifically for you, and your teeth shift gradually as you work through the set.

Treatment with us includes the initial assessment and treatment planning, your full series of aligners, review appointments through treatment, and a clear written quote up front. Depending on the condition of your teeth, treatment can be complete in as little as six months. We are an ADA independently accredited practice with three locations across Greater Hobart, so review appointments are easy to fit in wherever you work or live in the city.

What to Ask Before You Commit

•   Which Invisalign tier am I being quoted for, and why that one?

•   How many aligners and how many months, realistically?

•   Are refinements at the end included in this price?

•   Are retainers included, and what do replacements cost later?

•   What preparatory work do I need first, and what does that cost?

•   What happens to the price if treatment takes longer than planned?

•   Can I have the full quote in writing to check against my health fund?

A complete single-tooth dental implant in Hobart may cost around $3,000 to $7,000, based on commonly published Australian price ranges. This broad estimate may include the implant fixture, the abutment that connects it to the replacement tooth, and the final crown. Treatment can cost more when bone grafting, additional imaging, tooth removal, sedation or specialist care is required. There is no single price that applies to every Hobart patient because dental implant treatment is planned individually. A clinical assessment is the only reliable way to establish what you need and provide an accurate quote. Our dental implant services in Hobart include an assessment of the treatment and whether it may be suitable for you.

When choosing a dentist in Hobart, many patients consider more than location and services. They also want to know whether their dental clinic works with their private health insurance provider and whether they can maximise their available benefits. A preferred provider dentist is a dental clinic that has an arrangement with certain health funds to provide additional benefits or agreed services to eligible members. Understanding how preferred providers work can help you make informed decisions about your dental care and how you use your private health insurance benefits.
