Childrens Dental
At Moonah, Claremont and Campbell Street Dental we care about your children and want their first and following dental trips to be ones they look forward too.
We know how important it is for children to feel safe and supported when visiting the dentist — and that’s exactly what we provide at all three of our locations. Our gentle, compassionate dentists understand how to work with children and always take the extra time to ensure each visit feels calm, comfortable, and sometimes even fun!
In addition to our gentle dental team, we’re proud to have multiple dental therapists who specialise in children’s dentistry. They understand how to work with kids of all ages and are experts at helping little ones build healthy habits and confidence in the dental chair. With over 20 years in experience, you can be assured that your children will be well cared for by our therapists.
Whether it’s your child’s first visit or a regular check-up, we’re here to make the experience easy and enjoyable — for both you and your child. Let us help set your child up for a lifetime of healthy, happy smiles.
Child Dental Benefits Scheme
All of our practices participate in the Australian Government Child Dental Benefits Scheme (CDBS). The CDBS is a program that provides eligible children between ages 2-17 up to $1095 for essential dental services, capped over two consecutive years.
For more information and to check if your child is eligible, please visit the Services Australia website.
Alternatively, we can check your children's eligibility at any of our clinics if you provide us with your Medicare card details.
Childrens Dental Milestones
From Birth
From birth until their first tooth, a damp cloth can be used to clean their gums. After their first tooth, try to brush twice daily with an infant toothbrush and water.
Our dentists suggest children have their first visit when they get their first tooth!
From 18 months
After 18 months, children should continue brushing twice daily but can begin to use kids fluoride toothpaste and using dental floss between any teeth that are touching.
Regular dental visits continue (Every 6 or 12 months).
From 6 years
After 6, children can begin to use adult fluoride toothpaste whilst still brushing twice daily.
Some dentists suggest around age 7 orthodontic assessments can be beneficial, especially if there are early signs of misalignment. Detecting jaw growth or spacing problems early can prevent more invasive treatments later.
Regular dental visits continue (Every 6 or 12 months).
From 8 years
From about 8 years old, is a good time to begin encouraging independence in their brushing routines. Timers and reward charts can be helpful!
Regular dental visits continue (Every 6 or 12 months).
